Stan Fryzel evoked some of my fondest memories with The Carnivals of Roseland. All were good but St.Salomeas was the best. For Ten Days each Summer in 40's the grounds on Michigan Avenue were transformed into a Venue of Rides, Games, Bingo, Polish Food Tent, Polka Music Bandstand and the Beverage Tent. I volunteered to bring supplies each year to the tents under the direction of Stan's Aunt Bernice to keep the Carnival going. For us kids hanging out with our friends, riding the rides and eating the food was the best. The boys were back from the Wars, they were dating and they brought a lot of joy to the Carnival. There were Weddings every Saturday at St. Salomea's. Each night at eleven the Carnival closed with a high wire act which was exciting. Only St. Salomea had a closing act. I went to all the Carnivals and nothing matches St. Anthony's Italian Sausage and Peppers Sandwich on a Pannetti's Hard Roll. What Memories and I love to write.
